I studied English and creative writing at West Virginia University, where I completed my undergraduate and Master of Arts degrees. I also spent some time teaching Composition and World Literature at WVU and Fairmont State College. I moved to the Pittsburgh area and completed my teaching certification at the University of Pittsburgh. I briefly taught at CCAC North prior to becoming employed at Hopewell in 2003.
ACADEMIC ENGLISH 10 - In this class, students read several novels including Of Mice and Men and To Kill a Mockingbird. They also read the play Julius Caesar. In addition, students study various genres such as poetry, short story and tragedy, and they also examine differences between fiction and non fiction. COMPOSITION - In this class, students focus on developing their writing skills. Students explore personal writing, as well as informative and persuasive compositions. Analyzing and discussing published essays and modeling other authors' writing styles will be a key component of the class. Students will read classic American literature in works such as The Catcher in the Rye and The Crucible.
