Parental Involvement

You can support the academic environment of the classroom by reinforcing reading vocabulary and skills, spelling words, and math concepts presented in class.
Daily practice at home is encouraged even though a “written” homework assignment is not always given.

Please note that offering help with written assignments is often necessary and supported at this level.

In reading--

  • Read to your child.
  • Listen to your child read.

Encourage your child to read and reread the paperback booklets and sentence reading sheets that are sent home as well as the weekly story in his/her reader as they focus on new vocabulary and phonics concepts introduced.

  • Play letter and number games with your child at home or while traveling in the car.
  • Encourage your child to write the spelling words and other words dictated, lists, sentences, and/or stories.
  • Adapt board games to facilitate the quick recall of vocabulary.

 In math—

  • Help your child complete the written assignments that are sent home periodically.

Please emphasize and praise your child for his or her efforts and accomplishments no matter how big or how small.

I want your child to be happy and excited about learning.
