What does it mean to be gifted?
- According to the Pa Code, “mentally gifted” is having outstanding intellectual and creative ability the development of which requires specially designed programs or support services, or both, not ordinarily provided in the regular education program.

What does it mean to be a parent of a gifted child?
-Parents are often very proud that their child is gifted.  However, there could also be fear, confusion, and frustration.  Raising a gifted child is NOT easy.  By high school things are probably easier then the younger grades behavior wise but there are many things to consider with a gifted child.

Emotional and social issues
 - High school students can have many needs that they hide or think they should not have because they are gifted. There are many books to help educated parents on understanding the intensity of a gifted child's emotions.

Extra-curriculars
-Providing activities year round will be beneficial to both you and your child.  It will keep them engaged and provide socializing with there intellectual peers.

Financial Aid
-It is NEVER too early to start looking into scholarships and savings plans.  There are various competitions and projects that students can participate in that have financial rewards.  Even if it is small amounts it can all add up and help with books.
