Viking Principals V2E3

The guidance department, along with Mr. Milanovich and I have worked hard to finalize the Fall Parent Student Education Series.  This series is in its second year and we are excited about what offerings are available this fall.

This week there are two important events that I would like to highlight. On Tuesday, we present Financial Aid night in the cafeteria at 5:30 PM.  Parents and students who are thinking about college are invited to attend and find out exactly what financial aid is available and how to navigate the processes involved in attaining aid.  I would like to thank our friends at Harrold’s Inn who will be providing a snack.  This night is sure to provide valuable information that will pay dividends (literally) down the road.

On Wednesday night, we present a parents only Social Media and Youth Trends With Technology night.  Parents of children of any age are encouraged to attend this event which will be held in the auditorium at 6 PM.  With the pervasiveness of social media among students of all ages, parents sometimes struggle to be aware of what they need to know to help their children become and stay good digital citizens.  Technology is a double edged sword in the sense that it connects people across a wide spectrum of backgrounds like never before in history; however, it requires responsibility to harness this power in a productive way.  Every day I see young adults who risk severe consequences because of a lack of awareness in how to appropriately use technology.  Subsequently, I see parents who want to help their children to do so, but are not sure how.  Attendance at this event will help fill in the gap for parents and again, I strongly urge parents of children of any age to attend.

Later this month, we present a college prep night for college bound juniors and parents.  Again, you have questions, we have answers.  Let us help ease the fears of preparing to prepare for the future.

Lastly, in November there will be an informational night for the CCBC Health Academy, which is a new initiative from CCBC which will run similarly to the highly successful Aviation program.  Students who are thinking about careers in the health industry are encouraged to come and check out this opportunity to get a jump on preparation while still in high school.

The full poster, which has been placed all over Hopewell Area School District and also contains information about testing and college fairs, can be viewed here http://www.hopewell.k12.pa.us/protected/ArticleView.aspx?iid=6Y2Y2B0&dasi=4G22Y.

Look for our Spring Parent Student Education Series announcement sometime in January.
