Army Presentation

The U.S Army visited Hopewell Area High School on April 17, 2014, and student were able to participate in the presentation during their history class. The Army divided their different skills into stations in the gymnasium and in the high school parking lot with a specialized trailer that contained hands-on equipment.  In the gymnasium, students had the opportunity to not only meet Army representatives and understand what goes on during their preparation and training, but they were able to try on the eighty pound gear that the bomb squad would wear. Participants were able to wear a bomb suit and attempt to perform push-ups and run around to see how difficult task can become while wearing the gear. Students also had the chance to wear an underwater scuba diving mask and tank, which in reality is used for underwater welding.  In the U.S Army trailer, the army provided an abundance of active learning equipment. These included night vision goggles that are also able to view in smoke as well as virtual games that tested your reflexes and ability to aim and shoot. The U.S Army uniforms were provided to try on and a display of food was simulated to show what would have to be taken on their designated destination. The Red Cross and Grove City College also attended to showcase different opportunities the students could have if they decided to pursue either nursing or engineering. Not only did the students enjoy the chance of learning what goes on with the United States Army, but they also had the pleasure of getting to know some of the volunteers!
