We are pleased to announce that our students of the month for February are senior Greg Nero and sophomore Asia Martinez.
Greg is a member of the men’s 200 meter medley 200 meter freestyle relay teams that finished in 6th and 4th place respectively this past weekend at the WPIAL Swimming championships. The teams have qualified to compete in the PIAA state championships at Bucknell University March 11 and 12. This is will not be Greg’s first state championship appearance this year as this fall he helped power the men’s cross country team to the WPIAL championship meet and he competed as an individual in the state championship at Hershey. In addition to athletics, Greg is ranked fourth in the class of 2016 and is an active member of student council and National Honor Society.
Asia has been extremely proactive in raising funds necessary to bring the nationally renowned Rachel’s Challenge anti-bullying program to HHS this Thursday. Asia has taken it upon herself to create fundraising like a gourmet cupcake sale at the football game and candy cane grams here at school for Christmas. She has created banners and poster raising awareness of the Rachel’s Challenge Program. Her goal is to create a safe learning environment for everyone and focuses on civility toward each other while improving academic achievement and engaging students in their learning. Furthermore, Asia wants to empower students and teachers to affect positive change here at HHS by participating in the training that Rachel’s Challenge provides.
