Kindergarten
The students sing songs by rote, clap rhythm patterns, enjoy listening to musical selections and create the expressive quality of music by moving and playing instruments. They learn to recognize musical instruments, sounds, and environmental sounds.

First Grade
The students sing songs, enjoy listening to musical selections and create the expressive quality of music by moving, playing instruments, and creativity. They learn to recognize musical instruments, sounds, rhythm patterns, and environmental sounds.

Second Grade
The students sing songs, enjoy listening to musical selections, and create the expressive quality of music by moving, playing instruments, and creativity. They learn to read music through notation in their music books. The students learn the lines and spaces of the treble clef. They create percussion accompaniments, use different dynamic levels in unison or two-part singing, and expand movements with body and instruments.

Third Grade
The students sing songs, enjoy listening selections, and create the expressive quality of music by moving, playing instruments, and creativity. They continue to read music through notation in their music books, create percussion accompaniments, use different dynamic levels in unison or two-part singing, and explore movement.

 

Fourth Grade
The students sing songs, enjoy listening selections, and create the expressive quality of music by moving, playing instruments, and creativity. They continue to expand reading music notation in their music books, create percussion accompaniments, use different dynamic levels in unison or two-part singing, and explore movement. The students learn how to play the recorder. They receive a report card twice a year, and are graded on behavior/participation and skill attainment. The grading scale is:
O - Outstanding, S - Satisfactory, N - Needs Improvement, and I - Incomplete.                                    

All of the students learn songs related to holidays, and demonstrate their musical talents throughout the year at special performances. They study and develop music that can form a foundation for a lifelong interest in music. The music book series is Silver Burdett Making Music.
