Important Commencement Information

Baccalaureate

  • Date
    • Tuesday, May 30th

  • Event
    • Baccalaureate is a formal ceremony to honor the graduating class. It is requested by the graduating class and is not mandatory; however, you are encouraged to participate. It will last approximately 45 minutes.
    • Students participating should report to room 102 by 5:45 dressed in caps and gowns with dress attire underneath.
  • Practice 
    • Those attending Baccalaureate will quickly rehearse after Graduation practice on Friday May 26th.

Graduation practices

  • General Information
    • Check-in at the table in the auditorium lobby. 
    • We will start in the auditorium.
    • Must be signed in at 8 am. If you are late, you will have to make-up time.
    • All practices are mandatory! If you will miss a practice, you must see Mr. Allison, Dr. Kartychak, Mrs. Colangelo or Mrs. Korchnak in advance to make arrangements.
    • Seniors should not be upstairs or in classroom areas on practice days without authorization from a staff member. 
    • Bring a small towel in case your chair outside is damp.
    • Plan for indoor AND outdoor practices each day
    • Participation in Graduation is not mandatory. 
      • We hope all seniors will participate. 
      • Someone is proud of you and wants to see your accomplishment - a parent, or grandparent, or sibling, or our school staff - we want to celebrate your success.
    • If choosing not to participate please email, schoology message, or see Mr. Allison. THANK YOU

  • Transportation
    • If you need transportation - please ride your regular bus in the AM, report to the auditorium, and we will get transportation arranged for after practice.

Elementary/Junior High Graduate Walk

  • Description
    • We will bus everyone to each school and walk through wearing caps and gowns, interact with students, and return to HHS when done.

    • 9:15 - 9:30 - Independence Elementary
    • 9:45 - 10:00 - Hopewell Elementary
    • 10:15 - 10:30 - Junior High School
    • 10:45 - 11:00 - Margaret Ross Elementary

Graduation

  • Time
    • Reporting Time: No later than 6:15 PM
    • Start Time: 6:30 PM

    • Tony Dorsett Stadium, weather permitting***
    • Alternate location HHS Auditorium

  • Information
    • Graduates need to report to Rooms 200-208 no later than 6:15 PM. No parents or family members will be permitted into the hallway - graduates only, please.
      • Speakers and top 10 - Room 200
      • Metz (326) - Room 201
      • Shuleski (322) - Room 202
      • Winters (325) - Room 203
      • Baker (320) - Room 204
      • Covalt (327) - Room 206
      • Daltorio (201) - Room 207

  • Tickets: 
    • If graduation is outside, anyone that wants to attend can; tickets are not necessary. 
    • If graduation is inside, each person attending (not including the graduate), needs to have a ticket to be guaranteed a seat. Each student will be given up to 7 tickets, but can request additional tickets if needed. Ticket request forms will be given out on Thursday May 25!
    • Extra tickets will be given as available, but inside seating is limited.
    • The ticket request forms need to be returned at graduation practice on Friday May 26th to the class sponsors.

  • Attire
    • Graduates are asked to wear clothing appropriate for a formal event. 
      • For males, this includes a collared shirt, nice slacks and nice shoes. 
      • For females, this includes a dress, skirt, or dress pants and an appropriate shirt. Don’t wear high heels on the field.! 
      • All students must have a cap and gown, see Mr. Allison. if you do not have a cap/gown.
    • You are encouraged to wear honors cords for NHS, German Honor Society, Military etc. 
    • If you won WPIAL or PIAA Medals wear those. 
    • You could also wear Band or chorus district/honors ribbons. 
    • Any other cords or sashes must be approved by a principal in advance.

  • Parking
    • Parking at the school is limited.
    • Requests regarding handicapped/reserved parking will be distributed at graduation practice on Thursday, May 25. Handicapped Request forms are due back to the class sponsors on Friday May 26th.
    • Shuttles will be running from Margaret Ross Elementary and the Hopewell Shopping Center from 5:00 - 9:00.

  • Graduation Pictures
    • Mr. Jim Bango will be taking pictures of each graduate receiving their diploma; information to order will be distributed.

**The decision as to whether Commencement is held outside or inside will be made as soon as possible on Wednesday May 31st based on the current and predicted weather and will be posted on Schoology as soon as it is determined.

Please try to refrain from calling the school as Schoology Messages from Mr. Allison will have the most current information.
