Hopewell Area SD: Remote Instruction on Thursday, May 1, 2025

Due to ongoing storm restoration efforts in the community and at district schools, the Hopewell Area School District will operate all schools under a Flexible Instruction Day (FID) model with students learning remotely from home on Thursday, May 1, 2025. There will be no district transportation provided, and after-school and evening activities will take place as scheduled.

The district truly understands that some students may have varying needs associated with power outages or Internet loss, so please communicate needs with teachers and principals. They will be willing to assist as needed. With an in-service day and prom happening on Friday (May 2), students will next return to school on Monday, May 5. So, the extra day in remote learning will yield multiple days of recovery efforts to, hopefully, return all students to regular in-person schooling on Monday, May 5.

Where do you start?

Career Cruising

Students can create an account and start an assessment on the website www.careercruising.com. The guidance department has a link and directions on how to begin this process on their webpage. This website is a wonderful starting point of finding out careers, college programs to major in and where to attend, as well as financial information for jobs.

Research/Seminars

Various careers can be researched on careercruising website as well. There are videos of professionals in many fields discussing their job. Information about degrees needed and where to earn those degrees are offered. Students can also see what part of the country may or may not have their field growing as well as the expected salary to work towards.

Observations/shadowing

Students are encouraged to discuss ideas of job shadowing opportunities. Often companies are more than happy to let a high school student shadow someone for the day. Students should try to have this experience if possible to get first hand knowledge of the jobs within a field. Better for the students to discover what careers are suited to them now instead of in college.

UPMC is currently accepting applications for shadowing a PA or nurse.
